Key Differences: Shark NV803 vs NV501
Based on the chart above, here’s what we learned about these two Shark vacuums.
The Shark NV501 is not a DuoClean Shark, but the NV803 is.
What does this feature do? Simply put, all Shark cleaners with DuoClean feature have 2 brushrolls – a soft brush and a bristle brush that counter-rotate so they dig deep inside carpets and other surfaces. Aside from that, this system sucks in the dirt instead of pushing it forward unlike many other brands or models of vacuum cleaners.
Dust Cup Capacity
The advantage of the Shark NV501 over the NV803 is that it’s equipped with a dust cup that has a bigger capacity. Based on data provided by Shark, the NV501’s dust cup’s capacity is 1.3 dry quarts. In comparison, the NV803’s dust cup has a capacity of 0.9 quarts. Between these two, the NV803 can easily fill up, so you’ll have to make your way to the trash a few more times than the NV501.
Tools or Attachments
Tools or attachments included are also different (with the exception of a Duster Crevice Tool).
With the Shark NV501, you’ll get the following: Premium Pet Power Brush, Wide Pet Upholstery Tool, Straight Suction Nozzle, Dusting Brush, Crevice Tool. On the other hand, you’ll get the following with the NV803: Under Appliance Wand, Pet Power Brush, Pet Multi-Tool, Duster Crevice Tool, Accessory Bag.

Which one should you get? Here’s our recommendation.
If you’re looking for a tried-and-tested Shark vacuum with a bigger dust cup capacity, then get the Shark NV501. It’s not a DuoClean, but one big plus is its adjustable suction. However, if you’re looking for a relatively lighter and slimmer Shark DuoClean vacuum, go ahead and go for the Shark NV803.
